Scientist Sam Beckett and his team have perfected a device, the Quantum Accelerator, that will allow a subject to time travel within his or her own lifetime. Testing the still unfinished device, Sam entered the Accelerator and vanished. He bounces around in time, always occupying someone else’s body, his memory shot as he rights things that went wrong while trying to find a way home.
