The Vampire (1913a)

UK, 1913
35mm film, black and white, 1.33:1
silent

A British horror film made by Searchlight Films. Despite its anonymity and its unavailability, it appears to have been important for two reasons – not only is it responsible for introducing into the British horror film that most popular of all its icons, the vampire, but also for initiating the strand of post-colonial horror that informed some British horror films right through to the 1970s.

Plot Summary

A British soldier is bitten by a vampire woman who is, in turn, gunned down by his friend. But she revives as a snake and kills him too.
