An American animated fantasy film directed by J. Stuart Blackton. In his book Anime: A History, Jonathan Clements writes that “the first mention of something that appears to have been a cartoon in a Japanese cinema is an otherwise unidentified film with the Japanese title Kimyō-naru Bōrudo (The Board Becomes Strange), shown at Tokyo's Yachiyo-kan theatre on 2 August 1907, which may have been a screening of Blackton's Humorous Phases of Funny Faces“, citing as his source Haraguchi Masahiro's book Animage Pocket Data Notes (p.16).
