Plot Summary

In the distant future, The House Atreides is relocated to the desert world of Arrakis, also known as , as part of a complex power struggle with rival clan, The Harkonnens. Arrakis is the only source of the all-important spice melange which powers every aspect of the vast Galactic Empire. Double crossed by the Harkonnens, The Emperor and the all-powerful Spacing Guild, The House Atreides is destroyed and the only survivors, The Lady Jessica and her son Paul, go on the run in the of Arrakis. The team up with the locals, the Freemen, and Paul soon comes to realise that thanks to the manipulation of the mysterious Bene Gesserit sisterhood, he is to become the Kwisatz Haderach, a messiah who also figures in Fremen legends.

In the UK the film was given a royal charity premiere in the presence of Prince Andrew in aid of mental health charity MIND at the Empire, Leicester Square on 13 December 1984. It went on general release the following day.
