Series: Doctor Who (1963-1989) – series 5, episodes 35-40
A British television science fiction serial directed by Tristran de Vere Cole. It marks the first appearance of new companion Zoe Heriot played by Wendy Padbury. Although her predecessor, Victoria Waterfield had left at the end of the previous story, Fury from the Deep (1968), actress Deborah Watling is still credited in episode 1 as she appears in a recap of the previous episode. Jamie refers to The Doctor as “John Smith”, the first time the pseudonym is used. Only two episodes are thought to have survived.
Plot Summary
The TARDIS materialises on board the spaceship Silver Carrier. After being attacked by a servo robot, Jamie contacts a nearby space station, The Wheel and he and The Doctor are rescued. But the Cybermen are lurking nearby, dispatching Cybermats into The Wheel which they hope to seize and use as a beacon for their invasion fleet heading towards the Earth.
