Alraune und der Golem (1919)

Germany, 1919
35mm film, black and white

A German horror film. Was this film ever made? Stephen Jones, writing in The Illustrated Frankenstein Movie Guide, certainly seems to think not, noting that “It is unlikely that a 1919 film entitled Alraune und der Golem […] was ever made, although a publicity poster exists.” The only other major reference to the film appears to be Walt Lee’s Reference Guide to Fantastic Films, which in turn references the back cover of Midi/Minuit Fantastique no.13 – which suggests that what Lee is referencing is that very same poster. For the sake of completeness, it’s included here, complete with Lee’s credit listings until such time that it can be verified that the film really doesn’t exist.
