PLOT SUMMARY

A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away... An evil Empire maintains an iron grip on the galaxy. But a rebel alliance has formed to fight them and are massing against the Empire's latest secret weapon, the Death Star. Young Luke Skywalker becomes involved with the alliance and finds himself drawn into the war against the Empire and their agent, the evil Darth Vader.

CAPSULE REVIEW

Though undeniably influential and successful and boasting one of the most devoted of fan communities, this first (or fourth, depending upon how you look at it) Star Wars film is a flimsily constructed series of coincidences and all-too-convenient plot twists that lacks a decent narrative drive and tries to keep things moving with special effects set pieces instead. The lousy acting, appalling dialogue and ill-judged comic relief don't make it any better, though there's no denying the importance of the film. incidentally, this is the movie with surely the highest body count in the industry's 100 year plus history!
