PLOT SUMMARY

In prehistoric times, Tumak, disavowed son of the leader of the rock people, is cast out from his tribe during a power struggle. Wandering alone and lost in the wilderness, he battles all sorts of strange creatures before being rescued by Loana from the fair-haired Shell tribe. After upsetting the leader of the Shells, he is again cast out and, accompanied by Loana, heads back to his own tribe to get revenge on his scheming brother.

CAPSULE REVIEW

The first of Hammer's ill-advised forays into prehistory is still the best, despite some moments that beggar belief and the very premise of a beautifully made up, fur bikini-clad Raquel Welch battling dinosaurs and grunting cavemen alike. Ray Harryhausen's effects and Welch's cleavage are the real stars of the show and more than make up for a nonsense script that's often as unintelligible as the cavemen's grunting.
