BIOGRAPHY

Daniel Haller's career in movies began as an art director and set designer, in which capacity he worked tirelessly for Roger Corman, conjuring outstanding and lavish sets on a pittance. His work on the AIP / Corman / Poe cycle in particular is simply amazing, giving the films a depth and texture that would otherwise be entirely missing. Lessons learned on the Corman shoots stood him in good stead when his long-time bosses at AIP gave him a chance too direct for himself in 1965 with the H.P. Lovecraft adaptation Die, Monster, Die!.

He followed through with another Lovecraft thriller, The Dunwich Horror (1970) before settling into a string of largely uninspired television offerings, though his name turned up regularly throughout the 1980s on some of the best loved genre shows of the decade. Disappointingly, the promise he showed in his feature films, particularly the under-rated The Dunwich Horror, has not been realised since.
