PLOT SUMMARY
In the distant future, the House Atreides is relocated
to the desert world of Arrakis, also known as Dune, as part of a complex
power struggle with rival clan, the Harkonnens. Arrakis is the only
source of the all-important spice melange which powers every aspect
of the vast Galactic Empire. Double crossed by the Harkonnens, the Emperor
and the all-powerful Spacing Guild, the House Atreides is destroyed
and the only survivors, the Lady Jessica and her son Paul, go on the
run in the deserts of Arrakis. The team up with the locals, the Freemen,
and Paul soon comes to realise that thanks to the manipulation of the
mysterious Bene Gesserit sisterhood, he is to become the Kwisatz Haderach,
a messiah who also figures in Fremen legends.
