PLOT SUMMARY
When his arch-enemy Dr Evil goes into suspended animation, British
secret agent Austin Powers follows suit. 30 years later, both men are
revived and Powers must stop Evil's plans to hold the world to ransom
with stolen nuclear weapons.
CAPSULE REVIEW
Taking swipes at just about every aspect of British late-60s popular
culture (Bond, The Avengers, psychedelia, Carnaby Street), Austin Powers
is not so much a coherent and sustained parody as it is a clever and
frequently very funny assemblage of one-liners, toilet humour and visual
gags. It gets by on the force of Myers' personality and on the opportunity
to spot where all teh jokes are aimed at.
